Noel Hurley is the founding CEO of Literal Labs, an AI algorithm business focused on sustainable approaches to artificial intelligence. He has a passion for taking new technologies at the concept stage and building businesses that have impact. He joined ARM Ltd when it was still a startup and was part of the team that developed and launched many of ARM’s early microprocessors as well as the introduction of 3d graphics accelerators into the mobile market. He co-founded XMOS Semiconductors, helping to drive it through the investment, specification and launch of its first products and gaining the first customers, before returning to ARM to lead product marketing, the CPU group and strategy functions as VP and General manager.
In 2023, Literal Labs was born from a combination of research into logic-based AI from Newcastle University and CIAR in Norway and having seen first-hand the unsustainable expansion of AI compute requirements. At Literal Labs we are building a company and team that are pioneering AI techniques that drive down the compute requirements and in doing so create AI technologies that are faster, lower energy and explainable. At Literal Labs we are creating AI technologies that benefit all and tread lightly on the environment.
