Annu Nieminen is the Founder & CEO of The Upright Project, a Helsinki-based data company building a new type of a quantification model to measure the real-world impacts that companies have on their surrounding world. Upright hosts the world’s largest open-access database on company impact, openly distributing science-dictated impact data on 10,000+ companies and 50,000+ funds. Upright’s proprietary data model identifies causal product/impact relations in 200M+ scientific publications and summarises the findings into common-sense net impact profiles.
Nieminen has been named an Innovator Under 35 by the MIT Technology Review for her innovation in the field of impact measurement and awarded as Entrepreneur of the Year 2023 in the Nordic Women in Tech Awards. Prior to founding Upright, Nieminen, an engineer by education, worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company and as CEO at Kasvuryhmä, a Finnish scale-up initiative.
