Jeffrey Rayport serves on the faculty in Entrepreneurial Management at Harvard Business School, where his research and teaching focuses on scaling growth-stage tech ventures.
Prior to HBS, Rayport was founder of Marketspace LLC, a digital advisory firm, and co-founder of Monitor Executive Development. He was a senior partner at Monitor Deloitte, and an operating partner at Castanea Partners, a private equity firm focused on retail and consumer brands.
Previously, Rayport was a professor at HBS for nearly a decade. While there, he developed the School’s first e-commerce course. He was voted Outstanding Professor for three years in a row by the HBS Students Association, and business plans from the course gave rise to many start-ups, including Yahoo! During that time, he coined the term “viral marketing.”
He has published textbooks on e-commerce and digital strategy (McGraw-Hill) and a bestselling business book on reinventing service businesses (Harvard Business Press).
He has served as a director of many public and private corporations.
Rayport earned an AB at Harvard College; an MPhil in International Relations at the University of Cambridge (U.K.); and an AM and PhD in History at Harvard University.
